Eastern Cape, the second most improved Province with regards to the passing rate of 2017 matriculants

​​2018 began on a high note with significant improvements of the Eastern Cape 2017 Matric results. Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshega announced that the Eastern Cape is the second most improved Province, with regards to the passing rate of matriculants. Below are details of how the Province has performed in 2017:
Overall pass: Out of 67 648 learners that wrote, 43 981 have passed. This brought the pass rate to 65%, an improvement of 5,1% from 2016.
Bachelor passes: The number increased from 19% in 2016 to 23% in 2017 (4% increase).
Distinctions: Overall percentage improvement moved from 2,1% in 2016 to 2,7% in 2017
The most improved district is OR Tambo coastal, from 46,7% to 61,7% - an improvement of a whooping 14,9%.
