Eastern Cape Provincial Government led by Premier Phumulo Masualle visited the SA Army military base for the launch of the Youth Infrastructure Maintenance Programme.
The programme is targeting 5000 young persons over a period of 5 years.
A total of 406 young people have been successfully recruited as the first group towards the 5000 target. The training has already started on the 26th of February 2018 at the 6 SAI Military Base in Grahamstown and it will be rolling out for 6 months - 3 months focusing on class training and character building whilst 3 other months will be dedicated to practicals.
The first three months deals with the acquisition of the hard skills Handyman, Cleaner, Groundsman, First Aid Officer and Health and Safety Officer, which will be offered at the army base as agreed and dedicated to entrepreneurial skills development.
This programme is vital in the upkeep of infrastructure as repair and maintenance of structures will be happening on an on going basis opposed to waiting for a building to be in a dilapidated and hard to repair state.
