Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle has signed yet another international cooperation agreement with the Chungcheongnam-do Province of South Korea, within three weeks after he signed an agreement with the Federal State of Lower Saxony of the Republic of Germany. Premier Masualle signed the Agreement on Cooperation with Chungcheongnam-do with Governor Hee-jung Ahn on Tuesday 10 November 2015 while he was there for a working visit with a high delegation from the Eastern Cape.
The two parties have agreed to “support and strengthen substantial cooperation to foster cultural, technological, educational exchanges and promote the potential for international trade between the two Provinces,” said Premier Masualle. He also said this agreement should not only be viewed in line with the 2014-19 Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF) and Provincial International Relations Strategy, but also within the broader national agenda. “As you might be aware that our visit was parallel to President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Germany and amongst issues that our President agreed on with Germany was cooperation on ocean economy, and that was what we agreed on with Lower Saxony and is also included in this cooperation agreement with South Korea.” Premier Masualle added.
The Provincial delegation to South Korea left the Province on Friday 06 November 2015. The Premier was accompanied by, amongst others, Economic Development and Environmental Affairs MEC Sakhumzi Somyo and Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane. The delegation is expected back in the Province on Friday 13 November 2015.
