Premier Phumulo Masualle in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Health and Microsoft launched the Rural Health Broadband Project at Qunu Village, just outside Mthatha.
Microsoft led a partnership initiative with Brightwave(Black Owned Broadband Service Provider) which enables hardware and software to integrate patient data seamlessly with the cloud. A patient will come to Qunu clinic and register their details, this will be stored in the cloud and any time tests are performed, scripts are issued or an appointment such as a routine check is passed, this information will also be stored in the cloud.
The patients medical record, conditions and prescriptions will be stored digitally off site from the clinic in the cloud and will only be able to be retrieved by use of the patients ID number by a registered nurse or doctor. This will eliminate paper storage, lost files and also speed up consultancy time.
